Vick’s Dog-Chewed Trading Cards Go For $7,400 on Ebay

Michael Vick, the quarterback who recently pleaded guilty to a federal dogfighting conspiracy charge, has had 22 of his trading cards chewed on and sold on Ebay for $7400. The cards were chewed and slobbered on by 2 missouri dogs and then sold on ebay, with the winning bidder choosing to send the proceeds to the Humane Society of Southeast Missouri and to Safe Harbor, a local animal sanctuary.

Just a tiny bit of poetic justice.

Facebook Info

Myspace. Facebook. Bebo. These are the 3 top social networking sites in the United States. Everyone’s heard about Myspace, and most people have heard about Facebook, too. Bebo has a little less brand awareness, but still has millions of regular users, and is most popular in the UK.

People use this sites to connect with people online. Users can create a profile which they can then post anything about themselves that they want. Interests, hobbies, you name it. People often share photos online and may make simple updates about their personal situations, similar to blog posts, but the blog functionality isn’t as developed as Wordpress, for example. Users often try to reconnect with old friends or gain new ones through the online social networking. Some users even strive to have as many ‘friends’ as they can get, with minor net celebrities (or a good looking woman :) ) getting hundreds or thousands of friends.

Often these sites are blocked from work or school. You can usually bypass these sites using a proxy, though. For example, you can use this Facebook proxy to access Facebook.com.

Selling Your Home

From Happy Owner:

When is the best time to sell your home?

In the wonderful spring time. That is the time of year that results in the most home sales. We at Happyowner.com have noticed that seasonal trend for years. It is true. Buyers with school age children are trying to make the move during the summer. They start home shopping in the spring to allow time for the 60 or so days for the closing. It also gives the potential buyer the time they need to find the perfect home. So, as a home seller, spring is the best time for you to list your home and have it sold. We provide real estate listings all over the globe. Please feel welcome to come in and browse our real estate listings.

No Transformers 2?

Just after I wrote how Transformers was one of my favorite movies of the summer, Engadget tells me that Michael Bay, the Transformers director, is parting ways with Paramount pictures. He ranted about them because they are abandoning the Blu-ray High Definition DVD format.

Not everyone likes Michael Bay, but I hope this doesn’t mean there won’t be a Transformers 2 (yeah, I know, a sequel), and if there is, I hope it doesn’t mean it’ll be completely lame.

Got Zestimates?

Ever wonder how much your house is worth?  Not too long ago, you only had a couple ways to find out how much your home was worth:

  • Pay an appraiser to get assign a value to your home, which costs several hundred dollars.
  • Wait for a similar home to go on sale in your neighborhood, then try to find out the price. Unreliable.
  • Ask a real estate agent for a free appraisal. Do you want an agent contacting you all the time, especially if you’re not planning to sell your house?
  • Sell your house (using an agent). You’ll find out for sure.

But for those that don’t want to sell their house just to find out how much it is worth, several online tools have popped up in the ‘recent’ future to value your home. Zillow is one of those sites, and probably the most popular.

Zillow provides ‘Zestimates’ for millions of homes across the country (if you live in a non-disclosure state or locality, though, you won’t be able to zestimate your home’s value). Zillow pulls publically available data on your home and others in your area and runs them through their proprietary algorithm to zestimate your home’s value. If you’re not happy with your zestimate, and the public data is incorrect or incomplete, you can claim your home and update the property information, which will recalculate your zestimate. For example, if you put an an addition this summer, you can add that information into zillow to recalculate the zestimate. Hopefully, your zestimate increases!

Zillow is a fun tool, but a word of caution: I would never buy or sell a home based on the zestimate alone. It’s truly an estimate, and Zillow cannot see inside your home to view the condition, nor that of your neighbors (and your home is valued partly on how much your neighbors’ homes are worth).

My Favorite Movies of the Summer

I don’t get a chance to go to the movies very often; I’ve got several little ones and they make moviegoing difficult. Go Netflix. I did get a chance to see a couple movies this summer, and here’s my two favorites:

Transformers: I like action/adventure flicks, I like robots, and I like Transformers (I had them as a kid), so this movie was a no-brainer. The effects are very cool, and it was fun to see the robots so animated and lifelike. The movie was a bit long at over two hours, but it’s worth it. Of course, the Autobots defeat the Decepticons, but you knew that anyways. The fun is in the action and effects. A good movie if your tastes aren’t too high brow.

300: Based on a graphic novel of a true story of how 300 Spartan Warriors, with the assistance of other warriors from surrounding Greek city-states, held off the invading Persion army that is estimated to have been upwards of 1 million warriors strong. Yes, 1 million (estimates vary, but it no matter what, it was big, and the Greeks were heavily outnumbered). This movie is gory, so stay away if you can’t stomach it, but there’s more great action and violence, and the effects are great. A really unique way of doing things. If you liked Gladiator or Braveheart, you’ll like this one.

If you like these types of movies, be sure to check these two out when they hit the rental shelves.

Fun Web Reviews

Norgeforge.org is a new blog that’s got some humor to it. The site recently made fun of the US astronauts’ drinking problems with some funny pics of astronauts with booze in space (Booze in Space, that was a 50’s tv show, right?). The site also does a few reviews of other websites, all with a humorous tone. It’s worth a peek.

Acai

With the health craze and crisis that exists today, especially in the US, people are always looking for more information on health, fitness, and their diet. Certain foods and diets have gained popularity with this trend, and one of those foods is Acai.

The acai grows on a palm in the amazon rain forest, and was ‘discovered’ several years ago. Since then, it has catapulted in popularity due to its high level of antioxidants and other healthy properties. Studies have been done that show acai even helps destroy cancer cells.

Acai is mostly consumed as a juice, since it degrades rapidly after it is picked. In juice or powder form, it retains its ’superfood’ powers.

You can find more information about this superfood and where to get it at Acai Berry Juice Info.

Mortgage Guide

Getting a mortgage is a complex task, especially now with the ’subprime meltdown,’ lenders going out of business, and real estate prices all over the map. It helps to do your homework before jumping in feet first. Scratch that - it’s absolutely essential. Otherwise, you’re at the mercy of potentially unscrupulous lenders or brokers. Take some time to read up first - the internet is a good start!

One such place to start would be the Mortgage Guide, an blog about mortgages. You can pick up tips and learn about the various terms involved with getting a mortgage. Although it shouldn’t be the only blog or site you visit to learn more about this complex topic, it can be a place to kick off you search for information. Check it out.
