Landscape Of The North Pole ‘Is Changing’
Temperatures in the north pole have begun to rise and the landscape of the area has started to change, according to research carried out by the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
More warm air is being driven towards the area due to a difference in wind circulation patterns, it found, the BBC reports.
Winter and spring temperatures in the vicinity were higher than those that are usually seen in the entire Arctic region.
“This is an unusual feature and it looks like the beginning of a signal from global warming,” commented James Overland from the NOAA.
In certain tundra spots at the location shrubs have begun to grow, the report also said.
People wanting to see the region in all its beauty can take advantage of a series of north pole experiences with Red Letter Days.
The north pole is the most northerly spot on the planet and the sea depth there is 4,261 metres.
