WiMAX - Go the Last Mile

We’re going to be seeing WiMAX soon - and what is that?

WiMAX is touted to be the ‘last mile’ of broadband wireless access. The last mile is referred to as the very last leg of a network that reaches the end user. In a cable/wire infrastructure, that last leg is very costly as it branches out to all the individual consumers. WiMAX is a lot like WiFi, which you’ve probably heard of, but reaches out to greater distances and at greater connectivity speeds (although the transfer rate decreases with range). WiMAX can reach out and touch you up to about 6 miles, whereas WiFi keeps you confined to about 100 yards. WiMAX also has greater quality and security.

Keep an eye out for WiMAX devices as this technology gets rolled out.
